Eggstreme Farming License, then bird, then pen
Paperwork is the gate. A hen without it is a crate you already paid for.
Every Eggstreme Farming session starts with the same toast: buy the license to produce white chicken eggs. Creators skip it, buy a hen, and then stare at a Market row that still says license required. This page is the paperwork loop only — where licenses live, which one to buy first, how XP unlocks the rest, and why a license without a matching pen is a receipt, not a farm. Day-one clicks are in getting started. The hour-by-hour ladder is the walkthrough. The catalog tabs are the shop.
Sagitta Studios released the full Steam Windows build on 4 September 2026. Launch rebalanced XP and redesigned missions. Demo clips that “levelled on every carton” may run slower now. Treat video dollar figures as snapshots, not a live API.
What a license actually buys
A license is permission to produce and vend a specific egg type. It is not the bird. It is not the pen. It is not the tray. You still need all four:
- License for that egg type (Market → Licenses).
- Animal that lays it (Market → Animals).
- Species pen rented on Management (green sign when active).
- Matching tray so the vending machine will take the carton.
White chicken eggs need a white-egg license, a white hen, the chicken yard, and a white-chicken tray. A brown hen in a licensed white yard still cannot vend brown until you buy the brown-egg license. Gold is its own type — golden eggs. Ducks, geese, and turkeys each want their own yard. The chicken pen will not legalize a goose.
Steam achievements such as First White Eggs, Brown Beginnings, A Touch of Blue, Duckling Start, and Turkey Time mark legal production, not crate ownership. The checklist is on achievements.
Where to buy them
Open the indoor farm computer. Licenses is a Market tab, next to Animals, Food, Furniture, Trays, and Medicines. Launch shows your cash on every store screen, so you see the drawer before you click buy. Management is a different panel — that is rent, not paperwork. Bank is a 12-percent loan in demo clips; do not fund a license with it unless a bill is already red and a partial tray cannot cover it.
Demo-era prices (snapshots, not a live sheet):
- White chicken-egg license — mid-twenties (clips show $24.35).
- Brown chicken-egg license — high twenties ($29 / $29.90).
- Duck-egg licenses — around $30 plus a duck that may cost $45.
The hen is extra. The pen is extra. The tray is extra. If sixty dollars of starting cash is all you have, the white kit is the only kit.
Unlock order that does not bounce rent
White chicken eggs first. Always. That license is the tutorial wall. Buy it, buy one matching hen, rent the chicken pen, unpack outside the fence, place with C. Controls if the crate fights you.
Second white hen before brown paperwork. Another white layer prints the same legal egg you already vend. A brown license at the same price as a hen is how farms stall on hour two.
Brown, then blue, still in the chicken yard. Brown Beginnings and A Touch of Blue are the flags. Keep colors on their own trays. Mix a brown egg into a white dozen and the vendor looks “broken” — that trap is how to sell eggs.
Ducks, geese, turkeys last. Each needs XP, a species license, a species pen, and a species tray. Renting a duck yard to “store extra chickens” does not work. Extra rent without extra licensed trays is the farm expansion failure mode. Run the profit planner before you sign another Management line.
Some Market rows stay grey until you level. LadyShelab’s demo session had a larger tray locked with no tooltip until level three. Launch rebalanced XP; if a license is visible but not purchasable, sell more matching trays instead of opening Bank.
XP is the other currency
Licenses cost cash and progress. Collecting, selling, and care tasks grant XP. Launch redesigned missions and rebalanced the curve, so a May clip that unlocked brown after two cartons may now want a third hen. Spend XP on the next license you can staff — matching bird, matching pen, matching tray — not on a gold row you cannot fill this cycle.
Time acceleration (Tab, any hour at launch) rolls those tasks. It also ages bills. Fill bins, pay due lines, then skip. The bed from demo 0.2.1 skips night; it does not buy a license.
What not to license yet
- Gold before white volume covers utilities.
- A second species while the chicken pen still has empty slots.
- A color you cannot tray because you spent the last dollars on plants.
- Anything the shop lists under official “what’s next.” Automatic food refill is a tease, not a 4 September SKU.
If a row says license required after you already clicked buy, you bought the animal, not the paperwork. Open Licenses, not Animals. Then pay rent. Then unpack outside. That order is the whole game.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common farm questions.
How do I unlock licenses in Eggstreme Farming?
Buy them on the farm computer under Market → Licenses. White chicken eggs first. Full order is on how to unlock licenses.
Why does the Market say license required after I bought a hen?
The hen is not the license. Open the Licenses tab, buy the matching egg type, then vend. See this page and the shop.
Do I need a new license for brown or blue eggs?
Yes. Each color is its own product. Brown and blue still use the chicken pen. Ladder: walkthrough.
When do duck, goose, and turkey licenses unlock?
After XP and cash can pay the license, the species pen, and one bird. Rank timing on the animal tier list.
Are license prices the same as in YouTube videos?
No. Clips are demo-era snapshots. Copy the order, not the dollar amounts. Check tonight’s Market and the profit planner.
